Choosing a Friday or Sunday wedding date can come with a lot of questions. Yes, we would all prefer Saturday weddings. But sometimes that just isn’t possible. And now, COVID-19 has caused many venues to have limited availability in 2021. Better yet, sometimes the advantages of an off-day wedding are too good to pass up: discounted rates, lower minimum head count, availability of your favorite venues and vendors!
Whatever your reason may be, for those couples planning a non-Saturday wedding, Fridays and Sundays are usually the next best days. Here are some tips to help you navigate whether getting married on a Friday or Sunday is best for you.
For Friday weddings, most guests will end up either taking a half day, a full day or possibly a couple of days off work (especially for those traveling). Be considerate with your bridal party as everyone may not be able to make it to a Thursday wedding rehearsal unless you schedule it pretty late in the day. And if possible, out of consideration for your guest, have your Friday wedding start a bit later than usual to allow folks to make it on time.
On the flip side, if you’re planning a Sunday wedding, starting earlier than usual is customary so that your guests can get home at a decent time. It’s easy to assume your guests will be majorly inconvenienced by a Sunday wedding, but if you’re not asking them to travel too far, you’d be surprised by how non-disruptive it actually is. Most guests are already planning to take a day off of work to travel for your wedding. Guests can usually travel on Saturday, celebrate with you on Sunday, and take Monday off to travel home.
In the end, you should go with the date you want.Your guests will do what it takes to attend regardless of what day it is. Just make sure to send out Save-the-dates well in advance to give people plenty of time to make arrangements. Be confident that those who want to be there will be there no matter what. So don’t stress out about pleasing everyone because you can’t. Don’t forget that this day isn’t about anyone but you and your fiance. So don’t over complicate things!
